Britain's Jenson Button (Brawn GP) was awarded the victory in the Spanish Grand Prix ahead of his fellow team member Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, while Fernando Alonso (Renault) was fifth

The race was neutralized in the first round after an accident in the third curve in which the Italian Jarno Trulli (Toyota) went off and was rammed from behind by the German Force India's Adrian Sutil, while that the two Toro Rosso's Swiss Sebastian Buemi and French Sebastien Bourdais crash.

For these accidents only 14 pilots of twenty end the race.
